So today is the feast day of St Chad of Litchfield (Mercia, England) the unofficial patron saint of elections since the famous Bush v Gore hanging chad incident. Chad is a most approriate patron saint of elections since he was so humble and gracious when he was deposed as Bishop of York for a consecration rules violation that an impressed Archbishop Theodore made him Bishop of Mercia, then seated at Litchfield. Now today, the first Tuesday of the month is state and local elections, spring primaries, in the US. We can hope and pray that those elections go smoothly whoever wins and any elections that are overturned have partisipants as gracious as St Chad. We may need to ask for Chad’s intercession on that!
